International student studying and working in Canada

If a student is enrolled in a full-time program leading to a degree, diploma, or certificate and the program is at least six months long, they are permitted to work both on and off campus. A designated learning institute should accept the student (DLI). A Social Insurance Number is necessary before you may begin working while you are a student.

Work permit for recent graduates

Depending on how long you studied, you may be eligible for a post-graduation work permit. If your plan was If you are researching for less than eight months, you do not qualify for a PGWP; if you are studying for more than eight months but lesser than two years, you will have their PGWP valid for up to the same amount of time.• A PGWP may be awarded for three years after two years. • A PGWP may be valid through three years for more than one program, for instance, if you completed a diploma or degree from an authorized Canadian school and obtained a second degree within the next two years.

 

You are not qualified for a PGWP if you have worked for less than eight months.

 

A PGWP may be given out for three years if two years have passed.

If you complete a diploma or degree from a Canadian institution that qualifies and then earns a graduate diploma or degree within the following two years from a Canadian institution that allows, more than one program from a PGWP may be valid for up to three years.
